As with all similar items, the Branding Iron is not used in the game beyond unlocking a showdown character and journal page.

- Holstein Hal as a multiplayer character in Showdown Mode.
- Pages 152 - 153 of Sheriff Bartlett's Journal, covering Holstein Hal.
Merchants[]
The Branding Iron can be purchased from the Shop interface at the start of the mission "End of the Line". If not purchased, it is not available subsequently during the current game. Holstein Hal can also be unlocked by completing the mission "Range War" with an Excellent rating. If unlocked in this manner, the Branding Iron will show as sold.
