Muriel Scranton is a minor character featured in Red Dead Redemption.

History[]

Background[]

Muriel is a young woman who works in some capacity for the Blackwater Bank, possibly a teller or a secretary. According to the newspaper article following the mission, she was married to Joseph Scranton, presumably a restaurant owner, and (judging by a gravestone in Blackwater's graveyard) possibly already a widower, having had another wife before Muriel.

Events of Red Dead Redemption[]

Muriel plays a very minor role in the mission "Exodus in America", where she is seen departing the same ferry as John Marston.

She is also encountered as one of Dutch's hostages in the mission, "Great Men are Not Always Wise". She is found in an office with a gun to her head and one of Dutch's men holding Herman Weinstein, the bank's manager, hostage. Marston and the two sheriffs try and convince Dutch to let her go, but this fails when Dutch shoots her in the head point blank just as he releases her.

Mission appearances[]

Trivia[]

General[]

  • Muriel's fate shares many similarities with that of Heidi McCourt, as she was also killed by Dutch with a shot to the head prior to the story during the Blackwater Massacre.

Red Dead Redemption[]

  • In Undead Nightmare, many undead can be found with the same clothing and a similar looking face.
  • In Undead Nightmare, her character model is re-purposed and used for Connie McTavish.
  • Despite being a resident of Blackwater, her grave cannot be found at the local cemetery following "Great Men are Not Always Wise", likely because she is only a minor NPC.

Red Dead Redemption 2[]

  • In the fifth Captain Russel encounter in Red Dead Redemption 2, Hayden Russel mentions a "Muriel" being his betrothed, although whether he has any relation to Scranton is unknown.
