This is where we part ways, friend. You have yourself a good time.

Jake leaving Marston to his fate at Fort Mercer

Jake is a minor character featured in Red Dead Redemption.

Background

Nothing is known of Jake's background, other than he knows enough about the New Austin area to be a guide. From his behaviour in the saloon, it can be inferred that he is a drunk and a womaniser.

Interactions

Jake is only seen in the mission "Exodus in America"; he has been hired by Marshal Johnson to serve as a local guide and to escort John Marston from Armadillo to Fort Mercer.

After arriving at the fort, Jake leaves and is not seen again.

Quotes

So, who is this friend you're looking for?
Jake to John Marston
You ain't very talkative are ya?
Jake to John Marston
I was send here bah Marshal Johnson you know him?
Jake to John Marston
Well I'm just chewing the dog mister, it's how I am, I don't mean nothin' by it.
Jake
I got the horses saddled up and ready out front. You ain't gonna find sturdier horses than all of these in all of New Austin. Easy on the spurs now. We don't need to draw undue attention.
Jake
Ain't taken nobody up to the Fort in a long time. Strange place for a decent fella to visit, if you don't mind me sayin'.

Trivia

  • He is the first person John Marston meets after arriving in Armadillo.
  • If the player follows Jake after arriving at Fort Mercer, it will fail the mission.
  • He bears a resemblance to Uncle and even refers to the prostitutes in Armadillo as "fine as cream gravy," which is the same thing Uncle says about the horses Marston breaks in the mission "A Continual Feast". Whether this is connected or coincidence is unknown.
  • At one point, he references criminal activity in the nearby Dade County. The only Dade County in the US is where Miami, Florida is located, making it a fictional county.
