Jeb Blankenship

Jeb Blankenship is a minor character and Stranger featured in Red Dead Redemption. He initiates the Stranger side-mission "Who Are You to Judge?".

History[]

Events of Red Dead Redemption 2[]

In 1907, the bartender at the Tumbleweed Saloon mentions Jeb; calling him an odd one and stating he's been sleeping out by the horse trough.[1]

Events of Red Dead Redemption[]

Jeb approaches Marston in Rathskeller Fork, clearly distraught and begs him to find his "love" in Tumbleweed. After the player tracks down Ann Stephenson in the abandoned town, it becomes apparent that his "love" is not her but in fact a horse named Lucy.

Once Lucy is returned, Jeb is overjoyed and embraces her while Marston and Ann look on.

Trivia[]

  • In the Tumbleweed cemetery, there is a tombstone of a woman named Grace Blankenship who died in 1907 and is survived by 'loving husband Jeb', making it possible that Jeb was so saddened and distraught at the death of his wife that he turned his love to his horse in an attempt to console his grief.
    • A line from the bartender in Tumbleweed in 1907 from Red Dead Redemption 2 seems to support this.
  • Another grave in Tumbleweed can be found for a woman named named Estella Blankenship who died in 1895, though her relation to Jeb, if any, is unknown.
  • A newspaper article available after the completion of the stranger mission in the last issue of the Blackwater Ledger reads that Jeb and Lucy were married in Rathskeller Fork, however, no one attended the wedding.
  • Jeb is apparently a zoophiliac. Zoophilia, also known as Bestiality, is the sexual attraction of a human to animals.
    • According to Ann, her father had a similar relationship with goats.
  • His name is possibly a reference to the store clerk Jed Blankenship from the movie Pale Rider, as they share a last name and the name Jeb and Jed are nearly identical.
  • After the player completes his mission, both he and Ann can be killed.
  • In Undead Nightmare some of the undead use his model.
  • After completing the mission, the player can either steal or kill Lucy. As a result, Jeb will shout "Lucy!" and both him and Ann will become hostile and begin shooting. At this time, a "Mission Failure" notice will appear even though the mission was completed properly.
  • He shares a character head with Gus McCloud, Thurlow Reese, and Whit McSwain.
