Land of Opportunity
|Description||Complete "The Assault on Fort Mercer"|
|Trophy Type||Bronze bronze|
This is the first mission in which you are able to use a Gatling Gun. In the mission, the Gatling gun is mounted inside West Dickens' stagecoach. As the stagecoach pulls inside, the back opens up and the player is engaged in a fierce firefight with members of Bill Williamson's gang. They will approach from directly in front of the wagon and to the right of it. The well in the center of the courtyard will crumble under enough concentrated fire, allowing easier aiming for some of the more hidden enemies.
When they are dealt with, a search of the rest of the fort reveals Williamson is not there, and the only inhabitants are a few of his goons. The last sequence of the mission has the player man the Gatling gun again and fend off reinforcements attacking the main gate of the fort. These reinforcements include both mounted and unmounted enemies, and two wagons with a Gatling gun mounted on them. You will fail the mission if Leigh Johnson or any of his Deputies die.
- The United States itself is often viewed by optimistic foreigners as the "Land of Opportunity". The image on the achievement is ironic, since it depicts Mexico rather than the United States. This is because by the turn of the 20th century, many Mexican immigrants often referred to America as the "Land of Opportunity".
- Unlocking this achievement/trophy with the Liars and Cheats DLC installed will unlock Nigel West Dickens as a Multiplayer character model.
- Occasionally, after the player defeats the reinforcements, the screen will go blank and you will be forced to restart your system. This will make it so that when the player does complete the mission, he will not receive the achievement/trophy. This is similar to the glitch involving the No More Fancy Words achievement/trophy, which is another mission in which the player unlocks a new territory.
