The settlement of Escalera, Nuevo Paraiso.

The settlements of Van Horn Trading Post, Saint Denis, and Armadillo.

For locations occupied exclusively by outlaws, see Gang Hideouts.

Settlements are permanently inhabited locations such as towns, ranches, and trading posts that appear throughout the Red Dead series.

Description[]

In Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2, settlements serve as central areas where the player can stock up on supplies, rest, turn in bounties, and perform other activities between missions. Settlements can be found across the entire maps of both games, ranging from ranches, such as Twin Rocks, to massive hubs of civilization like Saint Denis. Each settlement brings a unique backstory and set of things to explore, with side-missions, secrets, and many more. Each settlement also provides a different set of amenities, generally one or more of the following:

Red Dead Revolver[]

There are various settlements in the game, but the largest settlement in Red Dead Revolver is Brimstone. Another settlement that plays a role in the game is Widow's Patch.

Red Dead Redemption[]

Red-Dead-Redemption-Detailed-Game-Map

Settlements are highlighted in orange color

Red Dead Redemption has large and small settlements spread throughout the entire map. Towns are larger settlements which feature many amenities, typically including a general store, doctor’s office, and sometimes a gunsmith, along with other amenities. Towns usually have some form of law enforcement and offer night-watch jobs to the player and bounties of wanted criminals to catch.

Smaller and other settlements are less populated than towns, oftentimes containing no shops. They may or may not have public transport, and gambling, if on offer, is often a rough-and-ready sort like arm wrestling or five-finger fillet. If a safehouse is available, it may only be rentable. A few settlements are inhabited by NPCs but contain no player amenities. Some of these smaller settlements may also have wanted poster location. Among smaller and other settlements are included villages, larger ranches and farms, monasteries, larger camps, brothels and inns, fortresses and important train stations.

New Austin[]

New Austin is one of the two American states in Redemption, also known as the "Frontier." Despite this, much of the state is rapidly growing, with towns like Thieves' Landing and Armadillo beginning to industrialize and connect with the outside world. Even then, the state is still characterized by its rugged pastures and deserts, along with numerous ranches, oil rigs, and small towns dotting the landscape. Since the widespread outbreak of epidemics a few years prior, New Austin has seemed to have recovered, and even grown!

Towns
Rdr armadillo main street
Armadillo Armadillo is one of the last remaining boom towns of New Austin, found in the heart of Cholla Springs. Even though the town is much more prosperous than it was in 1907, lawlessness and duels still run rampant in the town. Armadillo provides an array of goods and services that make it a hub for commerce in the local area. By the events of Redemption, the town and its surrounding regions are under the authority of U.S. Marshal Leigh Johnson.
Rdr macfarlane ranch wide
MacFarlane's Ranch MacFarlane's Ranch is a settlement and prosperous cattle ranch situated in the pastures of Hennigan's Stead. Overseen by Drew MacFarlane and his last of kin, Bonnie, operations run relatively smoothly in the ranch, disregarding the occasional attempt of rustling. The ranch plays a major role in the story of Redemption as one of the main locations for the game's New Austin chapter, being John Marston's primary residence for the time being.
ThievesLanding
Thieves' Landing Thieves' Landing is a bustling port town in the swamps of Hennigan's Stead and is one of the largest and most industrialized settlements in New Austin. Despite this, the town still carries an overarching theme of lawlessness, with criminals and outlaws loitering everywhere (hence the town's name). Although no law enforcement is present in the area, business is booming as shops, factories, and shipping depots can be found in this town.
Other Settlements
Rdr benedict point
Benedict Point Benedict Point is a small settlement and train station straddling the border of the Gaptooth Ridge and Río Bravo regions. Used as a train station for the Southwestern Railroad Company, Benedict Point consists of a train station, along with a telegraph office, newspaper vendor, and a few other shacks.
Rdr gaptooth breach
Gaptooth Breach Gaptooth Breach is an abandoned mining town in Gaptooth Ridge. Found just west of the abandoned town of Tumbleweed, Gaptooth Breach is mostly made up of tents to house the resident miners and treasure hunters, along with a large mining complex found inside the mountainside. However, since its abandonment, the settlement has become a hotbed for criminal activity, home to the Treasure Hunters gang.
Rdr plainview00
Plainview Plainview is a small settlement in Río Bravo, mostly consisting of several tents and oil rigs. Plainview is the biggest oil drilling project in New Austin. Many of those who work in the nearby oil rigs use the tents to sleep, eat, and rest on this site. The location is home to several large timber oil derricks, and the camp is required to care for the workers. The player can arm-wrestle workers here as well.
Rdr rathskeller fork
Rathskeller Fork Rathskeller Fork is a large ranch in Gaptooth Ridge, perhaps best characterized as a large travelers' inn. Within the ranch, a stable block, saloon, and brothel can be found within the settlement's stone walls. Additionally, the player could choose to try their luck in a game of blackjack or horseshoes here.
Rdr ridgewood farm02
Ridgewood Farm Ridgewood Farm is a ranch in Cholla Springs that, much like MacFarlane's Ranch, serves as a gathering point for the local community, with many residents of the area being employed here. Despite what the property's name suggests, there is seemingly no agriculture on the property- only livestock, making the property more of a ranch.
Rdr tumbleweed
Tumbleweed Tumbleweed is a large and recently abandoned ghost town found in Gaptooth Ridge. Originally a bustling boomtown led by Sheriff Samuel Freeman, the town met its downfall at some point between 1907 and 1911. Although it is unknown how the town was abandoned, Marshal Johnson suggested that the railway serving Armadillo was not extended to Tumbleweed, bypassing the town instead, causing the residents to move away shortly afterward, with the lack of authority causing the town to be taken over by bandits. Tumbleweed therefore serves as a gang hideout inhabited by many unaffiliated criminals.

Nuevo Paraíso[]

Nuevo Paraíso is a Mexican state located across the San Luis River, just south of New Austin. The state's name translates to New Paradise, but ironically, it was far from that. By the events of Redemption, Nuevo Paraíso was undergoing a growing rebellion led by Abraham Reyes, bringing a large sense of lawlessness in the area. One noticeable feature about Nuevo Paraíso is that it is generally more impoverished compared to its American counterpart, and there is a more visible disparity between the rich and the poor- as seen in settlements like Escalera. Unlike the two other states featured in the game, Nuevo Paraíso is not featured in the second Redemption game.

Towns
Chuparosa-01
Chuparosa Chuparosa is a town nestled in the remote Perdido region of Nuevo Paraíso. Despite being located in a location rather disconnected from society, Chuparosa is one of the larger settlements in the state, home to all walks of life. Whether it be a citizen just trying to make ends meet in the local markets, or a bandito causing trouble in the local cantina or even the famed Landon Ricketts- Chuparosa is an interesting place to be.
Rdr el matadero safehouse roof
El Matadero El Matadero (Spanish for The Slaughterhouse) is a small corporate town in the Diez Coronas region. The town is home to several buildings, although its main attraction is the animal slaughterhouse run by Juan de la Vara. Most inhabitants of the town are Mexican or Chinese workers living in tents or communal housing. The area hosts the arm-wrestling minigame, as well as a safehouse for sale.
Escalera1
Escalera Escalera (Spanish for Stairway) is a large town in the Punta Orgullo region and the capital of Nuevo Paraíso and is the residence of the local leader, Agustín Allende. The town's name is very fitting, as it is located on an ascending hill that is divided into levels, with the market being on the lowest and Colonel Allende's mansion on the highest, with a variety of shops and houses in between. The town is heavily guarded by either rebels or the Mexican Army and will stop anybody who is out of line. This makes Escalera a dangerous place to cause trouble. Additionally, if the player purchased the Undead Nightmare DLC, they can find a secret location under the very grounds of the town.
Rdr las hermanas00
Las Hermanas Las Hermanas (Spanish for The Sisters) is a town in the Perdido region. The settlement is a convent, with the majority of its population being nuns. As such, the town takes pride in its ornate church and stone structures standing tall in the middle of the surrounding deserts. A set of bells over the entrance chimes the hour and incoming dangers.
Other Settlements
Agave Viejo
Agave Viejo Agave Viejo is a small settlement in the Perdido region and focuses largely on agriculture. The settlement is built around a large ranch-like building and is later used as a guerilla base for Abraham Reyes and his rebels.
Casa-Madrugada-view-after-duel
Casa Madrugada Casa Madrugada (Spanish for Dawn House, or colloquially The House of the Rising Sun) is a large brothel and settlement in the Diez Coronas region. The town is rather small, most famous for its cantina and gambling minigames, including liar's dice and dominoes. Due to the settlement's small size, there is also minimal presence of the law, with criminal activities, including duels and the occasional shooting being common.
Rdr el presidio00
El Presidio El Presidio (Spanish for The Prison) is a large military complex in Diez Coronas, overlooking the San Luis River. The complex serves as a stronghold for the Mexican Army and the location where John Marston and the rebels found Javier Escuella, who was being guarded by the soldiers. Notably, El Presidio is the only man-made structure in Nuevo Paraíso visible from New Austin in the second Redemption game.
Nosalida1
Nosalida Nosalida (Spanish for No Way Out) is a small and mostly abandoned settlement in Punta Orgullo, situated along the banks of the San Luis River. Nosalida serves as a prominent gang hideout that is mostly burned down by the player and the Mexican Army, leaving no survivors.
Rdr tesoro azul 4
Tesoro Azul Tesoro Azul (Spanish for Blue Treasure) is a ghost town and gang hideout in Punta Orgullo. Originally built as a mining town for turquoise, it is unknown how the town was abandoned, although it is regularly inhabited by outlaws that can be cleared out. The main feature of the town are the fortified ruins of a Catholic mission.
Torquemada1
Torquemada Torquemada (Spanish for Burned Tower) is a large military fort and a Mexican Army base of operations, perched atop a tall mesa with a spectacular view of Diez Coronas. At some point prior to the events of Redemption, the Mexican Army had invaded the small village and killed all of the rebels stationed there in a legendary battle.

West Elizabeth[]

West Elizabeth is the smallest American state in Redemption, but the most industrialized by a long shot, home to the thriving port town of Blackwater, which also serves as the state's capital. The state is distinguished from others due to its uniformed police force, cobbled roads, and named streets. Outside of Blackwater, there are the rolling plains of Great Plains and the deep forests of Tall Trees, which still carry whispers of lawlessness. Even then, West Elizabeth is often known as the most "civilized" place in the West.

Towns
MainStreet-View1-RedDeadRedemption
Blackwater Blackwater is a large, thriving, and industrialized town in the Great Plains region, serving as the capital of West Elizabeth. It is the largest settlement in the entire map of Redemption. It features cobbled streets with gas streetlamps, the earliest mass-produced automobiles, shops after shops, and telephone poles. With a unified constabulary, government system, and technological presence, Blackwater is not only a gateway to the future but a reminder of the fading west.
Rdr manzanita post00
Manzanita Post Manzanita Post is a rugged town deep in the forests of Tall Trees, serving as a rest stop for travelers and residents of the area. The town consists of a train station, a general store, and several tents where travelers can rest before continuing their respective journeys.
Other Settlements
Cochinay1
Cochinay Cochinay is a small settlement and mining complex deep in the mountains of Tall Trees, home to much of the state's Native American population led by the infamous Dutch van der Linde. Blanketed in a thick layer of snow, Cochinay is easily defensible, which is why it became the primary stronghold for Dutch's Gang.
Pacific-Union-Railroad-Camp-wide-view
Pacific Union Railroad Camp The Pacific Union Railroad Camp is a settlement and major construction site for trains that travel through the entire map, located in southern Tall Trees. Much of the town's operations are run by the Pacific Union Railroad Co.. Despite being a bustling center and melting pot of workers from different cultures, it is believed that the railroad company is responsible for the burning of Native American settlements such as Bearclaw Camp.

Red Dead Redemption 2[]

RDR2 Blank Map

Similar to the first game, large and small settlements sprawl across the map. There are three types of settlements in the game. Cities are huge, sprawling urban centers which feature a plethora of amenities, activities, and sights to see. Oftentimes, they have exclusive amenities such as stage performances and steamboats. Cities typically have a police department rather than using lawmen, with well-equipped officers and machinery. Saint Denis is the only city in the game, and the largest settlement in the Red Dead series.

Towns are smaller than cities, although considerably large. They feature a generous amount of amenities and activities, such as general stores, gunsmiths, stables, etc. Typically, towns have a law enforcement presence, with a sheriff’s office run by a sheriff and subordinate lawmen. Towns also offer bounties for wanted criminals, and sometimes even suffer attacks from outlaws that the player can choose to intervene in.

Smaller and other settlements are smaller settlements dotted across the map, typically with few to none amenities or public transport. Oftentimes, they are made up of large ranches, villages, and abandoned settlements. These smaller villages also may have a limited presence of law enforcement, making a rough and raucous environment. Among smaller and other settlements are included villages, larger ranches and farms, large camps, fortresses, and important train stations.

Ambarino[]

Ambarino is a state known for its vast wilderness and lack of civilization, with very little presence of modernization. As a result, few towns or settlements dot the state. There is only one major settlement in Ambarino, that being the Wapiti Indian Reservation, a small and isolated village of displaced natives. The majority of the state's population is likely made up of people living in ranches and homesteads. The two regions of Ambarino, the Grizzlies East and Grizzlies West, differ greatly in their climates. The Grizzlies West is filled with snow-capped mountains and creeks, while the Grizzlies East is characterized by its rocky cliffs, forests, and pristine lakes.

The Grizzlies West has no major populated settlements, although there are many abandoned towns. Settlements like Colter, Ewing Basin, and Millesani Claim hint that mining was a major industry in the area, although it may have dwindled over the years. As for its eastern counterpart, the climate is generally more hospitable, although there is still hostile wildlife and terrain in the picture that stop most settlements from thriving.

Towns

Wapiti Indian Reservation The Wapiti Indian Reservation is a Native American reservation for the Wapiti Tribe in the Grizzlies East. The Wapiti peoples originally roamed The Heartlands but were forcibly relocated to this small settlement that was not fit for agriculture within the mountains, causing much famine and suffering among the tribe. By 1899, the U.S. Army began to investigate the theory that the reservation was oil-rich and began preparing to relocate the Wapiti once more. It is the only large-scale settlement in Ambarino and is abandoned by 1907.
Other Settlements
CHez Porter
Chez Porter Chez Porter is a ranch in the Grizzlies West. It is inhabited by the cult-like Porter family, who have lived in isolation for years to the point where they have developed their own dialect and are likely inbred. If the player enters the property, the family reacts with hostility.
Colter
Colter Colter is an abandoned settlement in the Grizzlies West. The town was established for mining purposes but would be abandoned following the disastrous "Great Storm of 1884." Much of the town is still intact, such as the schoolhouse and stables, while other parts are more derelict, such as the church. At the beginning of the game, the town serves as the camp for the Van der Linde gang, who hid out in the town during a massive blizzard, awaiting the thaw.
Ewing Basin
Ewing Basin Ewing Basin is an abandoned settlement in the Grizzlies West. It was a mining facility established just south of Lake Isabella and, like Colter, was abandoned. Much of the settlement is derelict and run-down, with almost every structure in ruins. The walls have large gaps in between the wooden planks, and the wood itself appears rotten and worn. At the beginning of the game, the settlement served as a hideout for the O'Driscoll Boys that was ambushed in the mission "Old Friends."
Millesani Claim
Millesani Claim Millesani Claim is an abandoned settlement in the Grizzlies West. Like many others, it was used for mining. It was likely established during the 1858 Silver Rush and was supposedly very profitable. That luck changed with the Coinage Act of 1873, which revised federal minting, leaving silver out of the new gold standard. With the loss of silver being backed into currency, the claim lost its profitability and was most likely abandoned by the late 1870s. By 1899, the mine, along with a couple of shacks, are still intact.

Guarma[]

Guarma is a tropical island in the Caribbean Sea, east of Cuba that is visited during the game's fifth chapter. As such, the climate is generally hot and humid, with jungles filling the island. In the explorable parts of the island, the player can explore beaches and jungles, along with exotic wildlife native to the island. Near the Bahía de la Paz, several settlements and structures can be found, occupied by the Cuban Military and opposing Guarma Rebels. Outside of these settlements, the island of Guarma is vast and inhospitable.

Towns
AguasdulcesPlantations
Aguasdulces Aguasdulces is a town and sugar plantation on the island of Guarma. Founded many years ago, Aguasdulces is heavily reliant on the booming sugar industry. The main part of Aguasdulces is enclosed by a stone fence and consists of a large manor, the estate of Alberto Fussar, around which there are several cages and stone ledges. There is also a sugar factory, a dilapidated tower with an entrance to the caves, a mill, several buildings, a barn, and a well. North of the estate are sprawling plantations guarded by the Cuban Military, with small houses and villages dotting the area.
ManicatoNewImages
Manicato Manicato is a port town on the island of Guarma, just west of Aguasdulces. It is a dilapidated port with ruined structures, likely from war, and is heavily patrolled by the Cuban Military. Buildings and tents dot the port, along with a large stone tower with a cannon perched atop it.
Other Settlements
CincoTorres
Cinco Torres Cinco Torres (translates to Five Towers) is a military fort overlooking the Bahía de la Paz. Originally built by the Spanish Military, the fort has been overrun and turned into the base of operations for the Guarma Rebels, who are hoping to free the island from the tyrannical grip of the Cuban Military.
RDR ElNido G
El Nido El Nido (translates to The Nest) is a rebel outpost located far north of Aguasdulces. El Nido is a dilapidated yellow homestead surrounded by multiple drawers, barricades, and barrels. Large vines crawl up the walls of the house, and the water fountain has been left untreated. Inside the building are numerous boxes of dynamite and ammunition used by rebels to combat the Cuban Military.
LaCapilla Guarma
La Capilla La Capilla (translates to The Chapel) is an abandoned church and encampment in Guarma, just south of the Arroyo de la Vibora. Founded many years ago as a Spanish church, the chapel was destroyed at some point and turned into an outpost for rebels loyal to Hercule Fontaine. The Cuban Military has attempted many times to retake the building, although their efforts failed. A small building east of the chapel served as a temporary camp for the Van der Linde gang in Chapter 5.

Lemoyne[]

Lemoyne is the smallest and most populated state in the game, with much of its territory being heavily industrialized. Resembling the real-life state of Louisiana, the state is known for its warmer climates, open meadows, and dense swamps. With abundant fertile land and places to settle, it's no wonder why Red Dead Redemption 2's largest settlements can be found here. Divided into three regions, each is characterized by different attributes. The largest region, the Scarlett Meadows, is home to rolling hills and fertile land, which is why most of the state's ranches and plantations can be found here. Bayou Nwa most famously known for being the home of Saint Denis, the "eighth wonder of the civilized world." The third and final region, Bluewater Marsh, is absent of any settlements due to its inhospitable swampland terrain.

Cities
SaintDenis
Saint Denis Saint Denis, the "Jewel of Lemoyne," is the largest city in the Red Dead series and the state capital of Lemoyne, located in the Bayou Nwa region on the banks of the Lannahechee River. Saint Denis is a lively, 200-year-old melting-pot city where industry magnates, socialites, traders, sailors, workers, beggars, and thieves all live side by side. With good rail, road, and river connections for sugar, cotton, and other commodities trading, and a new electric power plant, business is booming. Along with Blackwater, Saint Denis also has a uniformed constabulary and trolley system.
Towns
Braithwaite-Manor
Braithwaite Manor Braithwaite Manor is a large cotton plantation and town in the Scarlett Meadows. It lies along the shore of Flat Iron Lake to the west. Braithwaite Manor was established by the wealthy Braithwaite family in 1779, utilizing slave labor and making fortunes on cotton production. Following the Civil War and the abolition of slavery, like Caliga Hall, the family's fortune slowly declined, and the family looked at other methods for financial gain, including illicit moonshining with the Lemoyne Raiders. The plantation consists of a large manor, stables, and several cabins. By 1907, the plantation had been abandoned and turned into a humble fishing village
Caliga Hall
Caliga Hall Caliga Hall is a large plantation and town in Bayou Nwa. Caliga Hall is a tobacco plantation owned by the Gray family. It is located on the western edge of Bayou Nwa, just east of Rhodes and to the west of Saint Denis. Caliga Hall was established before the Civil War. Utilizing slave labor, the Grays made a fortune off of tobacco and cotton production. Following the Civil War, however, the fortune slowly declined due to the abolition of slavery, and although the family still had wealth and power, they never reclaimed quite the same status. The plantation itself consists of the main mansion house, several support buildings including a stable, a number of small houses for farmhands, and numerous acres of fields.
Lagras art - Red Dead Redemption 2
Lagras Lagras is a Creole settlement deep in the swamps of Bayou Nwa. The tight-knit, self-sufficient community is known to be experts in all matters of the swamp, and the mysterious inhabitants are often hired as guides and trackers. The town of Lagras embodies a relaxed atmosphere, with its primary industry centered around fishing. Few other industries are present, as the bayou terrain makes other activities like farming near impossible.
RhodesRDR2
Rhodes Rhodes is a prim and proper Southern town on the surface, located deep in the Scarlett Meadows of Lemoyne, but many residents can't forget the Civil War or the town's pre-war glory days, where the horrific oppression of the slave trade made white landowners rich. Racial tensions, corruption, and old family feuds run deep. Founded by Brigadier General Sherman M. Rhodes in the early 19th century, the town is now mostly controlled by the Gray family, which is locked in a blood feud with the rival Braithwaite family.
Other Settlements
Lakay2
Lakay Lakay is an abandoned settlement deep in the swamps of Bayou Nwa, just across the lake from Lagras and a short ride north from Saint Denis. Consisting of only a few dimly and eerily lit shacks not much is known about Lakay other than the fact that rumors of it being haunted and that locals are afraid of it. The brutal Night Folk can be found around the town. The Van der Linde gang temporarily camps in this location near the end of the fifth chapter of the game.
MacombsEnd
Macomb's End Macomb's End is a small, abandoned settlement in Bayou Nwa. It only consists of a few buildings along with a dock and is notably populated by criminals and outlaws. The Lemoyne Raiders are common residents, often hiding out in the settlement and running moonshining operations here.
RDR2 POI 49 Pleasance 02
Pleasance Pleasance is a short-lived abandoned settlement in the Scarlett Meadows, near the swampy Kamassa River. The name can be seen as ironic due to the abnormal number of unpleasant events that took place there. The town of Pleasance was founded in August 1883 and was abandoned a month later following a plague and brutal massacre that claimed the lives of ten residents. By 1899, it had become a ghost town surrounded by an enduring mystery.
Sisika Penitentiary 02
Sisika Penitentiary Sisika Penitentiary is a maximum security prison situated on an island in the Lannahechee River in the Bluewater Marsh region of Lemoyne. Established in 1844, this prison lies on a small island off Lemoyne's eastern shore. The island is surrounded by watchtowers, each housing guards on the lookout. Encircling the prison are many fields and barns, all of which serve as labor camps for the inmates. In the center sits the main prison itself, comprised of many small buildings and larger ones. These structures are enclosed by a fortified wall. The penitentiary is segregated into two wards; one for males and the other for females. Gallows can also be seen inside the penitentiary.

New Austin[]

New Austin is the largest, yet one of the most sparsely populated states in Red Dead Redemption 2. Characterized as a largely rugged, untamed, and arid desert in the process of westward expansion, there is an abundant presence of wild animals and outlaws. Armadillo and Tumbleweed are the main settlements of the territory, although it is generally fairly rural; by the time of Redemption 2, it is the second only to Ambarino as the most sparsely populated region. The state is notably going through some hard times, as Armadillo has been hit by a cholera outbreak, and the Del Lobo Gang run frequent and terrorize civilians indiscriminately, with law enforcement and government being quite weak in responding to the crisis in the territory. Tumbleweed is the state's largest settlement by this time, competing with Armadillo for a key railway connection.

Towns
Armadillo 1899
Armadillo Armadillo is a town in Cholla Springs and is depicted as one of the few remaining boomtowns of the American West. Despite this, Armadillo is not running smoothly. The town mostly consists of wooden buildings constructed quickly by settlers heading into the West to seek their fortunes. A recent outbreak of cholera has devastated the once-prosperous town, forcing many businesses to close their doors and many people to leave in droves.
Thieves' Landing seen from distance
Thieves’ Landing Thieves’ Landing is an overrun port town and gang hideout in the swamps of Hennigan’s Stead. Thieves’ Landing is a paradise for low-lives and criminals who seek distance from law enforcement in this small port town. In 1907, this town is overrun by the Del Lobos Gang, who have taken over the town and turned it into their base of operations.
Tumbleweed 2
Tumbleweed Tumbleweed is a town in Gaptooth Ridge. What once was a bustling boomtown, Tumbleweed has been on the decline ever since railroads were built to nearby Armadillo, skipping over the small town. The relentless attacks from a group of local bandits called the Del Lobo Gang, along with several epidemics, did not help either. As a result, the town's sheriff, Samuel Freeman, has ruled the town with an iron fist in an attempt to combat these issues, although his efforts seem fruitless.
Other Settlements

Macfarlane Ranch RDR2
MacFarlane's Ranch MacFarlane's Ranch is a small settlement in Hennigan's Stead. Owned by the MacFarlane family, the town is a large cattle ranch. Other than a train station, there are not many amenities in the town. Especially with the cholera outbreak sweeping the state, the ranch is rather abandoned. Furthermore, the MacFarlane family temporarily left the ranch due to a death in the family.
Plainview seen from distance
Plainview Plainview is a deserted settlement in Río Bravo. It consists of a few construction tents along with a derelict oil derrick, seemingly devoid of people.
Rathskeller Fork from the south
Rathskeller Fork Rathskeller Fork is a large ranch in Gaptooth Ridge. Unlike its appearance in Red Dead Redemption 1, the ranch seems to be private property in 1907, with unwelcoming ranch hands residing there. The settlement has fallen into disrepair due to mismanagement by its current caretaker, who doesn't take kindly to visitors. As such, when the player enters the area, its inhabitants will become hostile and will eventually attack.
TwinRocksRDR2
Twin Rocks Twin Rocks is a small ranch in Cholla Springs. If the player has purchased the special/ultimate edition of Red Dead Redemption 2, the farm will serve as a hideout for the Del Lobos.

New Hanover[]

New Hanover is the second largest state in Red Dead Redemption 2. Characterized by dense forests and open plains, much of state bears minimal presence of modernization. New Hanover is divided into three regions. Cumberland Forest, the smallest region, is deeply forested with little human presence. The Heartlands, the largest region, makes up most of the state, and is known for its imposing rock formations and huge grasslands. Ranches and small towns that mainly specialize in agriculture or livestock make up most of the region. Lastly, Roanoke Ridge lies near the Lannahechee River and is an area of deciduous woodland, often covered in mist. It features a thriving mining industry and New Hanover's largest town, Annesburg.

Towns
Annesburg
Annesburg Annesburg is a town in Roanoke Ridge and the most modernized and largest settlement in New Hanover. Annesburg has been mining coal for nearly a century; as such, it is constantly covered in a thick, dark blanket of fog from the coal, and large chimneys pump black smoke into the air. The surrounding water beside Annesburg has an oily sheen from the large amounts of pollution. Despite the bustling economy of the town, life is not easy for the miners and their families- working conditions are terrible for little pay, and many men have lost their lives down the pit.
Valentine1899
Valentine Valentine is a livestock town in the Heartlands. A rough, raucous, hard-working town that provides livestock at auction to Heartlands landowners and rest and refreshment to thirsty cowboys. It's nicknamed "Mudtown" because the streets, buildings, and most of the residents are rarely clean. All sorts of rough-and-tumble folk can be found here, including cowboys, farmers, and outlaws. Thus, it is rife with opportunities, both criminal and legal.
Van Horn
Van Horn Trading Post Van Horn Trading Post is a town in Roanoke Ridge. It is a decrepit, dirty, worn, and derelict town that is past its prime. Its founders intended it to be a hub of commerce and trading, but these days it attracts more outlaws and delinquents than honest traders. Many structures appear to have been abandoned, and the rest are in disrepair. The local sheriff's office has been burned down, and as a result, the town is not policed. Instead, if one commits a crime, the inhabitants of Van Horn will become hostile and fire their weapons at each other and the player.
Other Settlements
Butcher Creek rdr2
Butcher Creek Butcher Creek is a small village deep in the forests of Roanoke Ridge. It is a muddy and derelict settlement home to hillbillies and local farmers made up of several settlements near the shore of Elysian Pool. Many of the residents are deformed, and the nearby Kamassa River is poisoned. As a result, many believe the village to be cursed.
Cornwall
Cornwall Kerosene & Tar Cornwall Kerosene & Tar is a large oil refinery and facility in the Heartlands. Owned by industrial titan Leviticus Cornwall, this massive facility is hellbent on oil production. Workers, as well as armed guards, have a dominant presence on the property, along with suppliers coming in and out via wagons and trains, both of which the settlement is very reliant on. The nearby Heartland Oil Fields are one of the company's many processions.
RDR2 Emerald Ranch
Emerald Ranch Emerald Ranch is a large, prosperous cattle ranch in the Heartlands. It is owned by a ruthless owner who is intent on undermining the smaller farms in the area. The railway station nearby allows for easy access to the ranch, helping it dominate the livestock trading business in the local area. Despite this, the town seems to be past its prime, with the general stores and saloons, respectively, being decommissioned following a series of incidents.
Fort Wallace
Fort Wallace Fort Wallace is a military installation in Cumberland Forest. Populated by soldiers of the U.S. Army, the fort is a restricted area, and the player will be ordered to stay back from the premises by soldiers if they draw too close, and shooting off any firearm will instantaneously result in retaliation. The fort has three towers, as well as five larger interior buildings, including a stable and a prison.
Limpany seen from distance
Limpany Limpany is an abandoned settlement in the Heartlands. Situated on the shore of the Dakota River, Limpany was a relatively small settlement that met a fiery end when much of the town was burned down in a brush fire. Although most of the town, including the saloon and general store, were derelict, only the jailhouse stood completely intact, as it was built with stone. The blue Cornwall Kerosene & Tar barrels scattered through the ruins suggest that the company did business in the town, but whether the company was complicit in the fire that destroyed it is unknown.

West Elizabeth[]

West Elizabeth is the second smallest state in Red Dead Redemption 2, yet it is rapidly industrializing. The state is comprised of three regions. Big Valley, the largest region, is filled with vast forests, and mountainous terrain. The logging industry is prevalent here, with several ranches and the large town of Strawberry. Great Plains consists of vast yellow grasslands, and is most notably the home of Blackwater, a rapidly growing and thriving port town that also serves as the capital of West Elizabeth. Lastly, Tall Trees is filled with dense redwood forests and rocky terrain. The region is sparsely populated due to the overwhelming presence of the Skinner Brothers, a dangerous outlaw gang that has swayed away most settlers from settling there.
