"Have you planned your Legends?" That's an odd question. What I mean is, when you've gone up through the ranks have you focused on completing certain challenges before you reach 50 and pass into Legend or do you just play and either ignore the challenges or let them happen when they happen?
Since all challenges are reset each time you pass into Legend, and some require a lot of build-up to complete, I've found myself focusing on certain game modes each trip up the ranks. Not exclusively - I still jump around between all the modes - I just shift the ratios. Here's what I've done:
- First time: A lot of Grand Prix, completing all of those challenges. Also did a lot of co-op and finished most of the non-Outlaw Free Roam challenges.
- Second time (first Legend): Didn't get any Golden Guns or complete many PVP challenges the first time through, so I spent most of my time in FFA, Gang matches, and Stronghold.
- Third time (second Legend): Did a lot of Poker, Liar's Dice, and Undead Overrun. Also drove a Stagecoach and ran over people every chance I got. I'm at rank 50 right now and am wrapping up the last couple of Undead Overrun challenges before passing into Legend again.
- Next time (third Legend): Planning to focus on advanced co-op, the outlaw Free Roam challenges, and more FFA/Gang/Weapon challenges (hopefully in some new maps soon). I'm also going to ride shotgun on a Stagecoach every chance I get to wrap up the final Stats challenges.
Am I insane? Probably. Do I overanalyze this stuff? Definitely. The great thing about RDR, though, is that it's all fun, so it's not like some games where being a "completist" feels like work.
